My Story

Growth

Over the course of my time in high school, I have been working to develop a company called Opinionation, LLC. It is a media company based out of Chicago, IL with a purpose of creating engaging content through sports, entertainment, politics, and current events happening around the world. I started this company when I was 14 years old and I have worked to develop it during my time in high school. My goal for Opinionation, LLC (OPN) is to become a mainstream media network.
Developing OPN has taught me a lot about myself. Opinionation has helped me to understand the business of media, how to run a business, what it takes to love your own work, and why it is important to understand your purpose on this earth. Through all the growing pains and hurdles that I have gone through over the last four years, the life obstacles have given me experiences that have helped me to grow. Opinionation has set me up for connections, not only in the media field, but in life. I have taken pictures for the Mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot. Opinionation is the personal photography company of Matt O’Shea, alderman of the 19th ward in Chicago. I have filmed for short films, interviews, and even been on the local news stations for the work that I have done in the city of Chicago. Through these experiences, I have learned to never doubt myself and I have expanded my idea of what I am capable of doing. As long as I keep believing in my work and putting my best foot forward each and every day, then I have realized that God will lead the way.
My passion for film and media has been the way I have connected with God. I have really been in touch with myself and my work because although I am young and far from where I want to be in this field, I have been blessed to work with some amazing people and learn a lot from the work I have been able to be a part of. Working for myself has helped me to understand the meaning of grit and perseverance. So many people have looked down on me and laughed at me because I was passionate about my work. I have been considered too serious and not fun. I have even been looked down upon because of my age. I had to realize that I couldn't allow people's opinions about me stop me from running Opinionation. Even through COVID-19, when opportunities seemed limited, I had to continue to push and talk about important topics and be a voice for my community through hard times. I got an opportunity to write an article about COVID-19 when I participated in the Howard University summer program and it opened my eyes to even bigger aspirations for my company and its work.
I want to change the world through my love of media. I want to inspire people of all ages to follow their dreams, without regard to age. Opinionation has helped me find passion, even if people don’t understand my purpose. In closing, I am grateful to understand my passion, and I am looking forward to using my gift to be a beacon of life for hope and change that is coming in the world.
